Light moves in a straight line from it source unless it is refracted. Light can be bent or refracted by the medium it travels through. We rolled up our sleeves and tested it out. We placed a pencil in a cup of water and discovered it appears bent as the light waves slow down in the water. Also, using Jello and a flashlight, we drew the path of the light beams on the butcher paper as it left the Jello.

This sounds like a fun experiment. I am jealous and wish my 6th grade class had offered cool experiments like this. I was reading the class blog and noticed the 'this day in history' note. I was in 6th grade and watched on tv as the space shuttled broke apart. It was so sad and shocking. Can't believe you are learning about it in school.
