Light moves in a straight line from it source unless it is refracted. Light can be bent or refracted by the medium it travels through. We rolled up our sleeves and tested it out. We placed a pencil in a cup of water and discovered it appears bent as the light waves slow down in the water. Also, using Jello and a flashlight, we drew the path of the light beams on the butcher paper as it left the Jello.
